Pay off your debts. If you have a credit card now, keep it at about 10-15% of your max and pay off every month. Also pay all bills on time.References :
first call and get your credit report.
then go through with a fine tooth comb and make sure EVERYTHING is up to date and correct.
then if there are any thing that is questionable make sure to call the companies (keep a log- of who you talk to and what they said) make sure they correct anything that is wrong.
next make sure to pay everything on time .References :
First of all…what kind of ‘bad’ things do you have on your credit report? Do you have collection accounts? Do you have past dues? Do you have lots of open credit accounts?
First and foremost – if you have any open credit accounts like credit cards that do not have a balance…call the companies and have them close the accounts. The more available credit you have open…the lower your score.
If you have collection accounts – you need to pay those off immediately. When you do – get a letter of full/final payment from the companies you paid (believe me…it might be a hassel now but will save you a lot of trouble in the future). Then you need to pay off any small balances right away. Because companies don’t always report right away to credit bureaus – you probably won’t make much of a dent in it before 6 – 8 weeks.References :
Contrary to what another poster said I’ve heard the opposite. If you have debt it looks better to have more available debt than what you’re using.
Best thing to do is to check out a fico repair website like myfico.com (highly endorsed by Suze Orman) to review what you have on each credit report with all three agencies (experian, transunion and equifax) then you can get advice from there on what’s dragging your score down as well as coaching to bring it up.
You’ll pay a little bit for the service but it’s worth it to spend money with a service that knows for sure what they’re doing.
Currently my score is 772 so I’m happy with my handling of my credit.References :
