All other items are either paid off or charge offs. Other than paying my open stuff on time what can I do to improve my credit score?

Pay off your smallest balance charge offs first. Charge offs really hurt your credit, but when you pay them off they show up as a paid charge off, which helps your score a lot. And if you have a $100 dollar charge off it hurts your score almost as much as a $5000 so pay the little ones off first.

First of all get a copy of your report (which I presume you have done – that would be how you would know that the repo came off).

Hi,

It is a nice idea to use a secured credit card to build up your credit history or re-built a damaged one. Although a damaged one takes more time, but there are catches. If you want to build fast your score and credit rating do these:

1) Never have more than 2 credit cards. If you are starting with credit card and no company is giving to you; have a secured credit card and keep one.

2) Use up to 30% of your credit card limit for bills. Try to keep between 30%-35%. Lenders want to see if you are being responsible with your lending. For 3000K limit don’t go over 1000K. Let’s say you need at least 500$ because this is what you spend; Well than it is recommended fo you to have a secured credit card of $1500

3)Always try to pay in full your credit card bills, if you cannot: pay the minimum; NEVER forget to pay. If you forget to pay that will harm your credit score badly

Do this for 6 – 12months and you will be able to get a credit card;

Don’t close credit card accounts after you pay them off.
Just cut them up and don’t use them.
If you close them you will be removing part of your credit history and also lower the available unused credit that is available on all your cards.

The score is based on history – so it will improve slowly over time.
But be assued of one thing.
Lenders like FHA do not go by scores – they view reports in detail.
They will see these items paid off and adjust their numbers.
Also employers look at your credit reports – the same thing you see.
Don’t worry about the score – just use credit wisely.

Continue using your credit to show usage on your reports.
Use your card for something you need like food or gas and pay in full each month.
This is a good way to develop top credit.
Carrying balances hurts you and in some cases can destroy your life.

It depends, if the accounts have already gone to collections paying them off will not improve your score at all as a matter of fact it will actually lower it because when you pay them they will become current rather then old.

The only time paying old collections will help your score is if you can get them to agree to a pay foe delete agreement, this is a simply contract that says that in return for your payment they agree to delete the account from your credit. If they do agree to this get it in writing before you pay them a dime.

If on the other hand these accounts have not been sent to collections and you pay them off your score will increase as soon as your creditors report to the bureaus the next month.

A mortgage paid as agreed is the best thing anyone can have on their credit.

My wife and I have been in our home almost 4-years now, never been late with a payment and our scores have gone up over 100-points.

Very few people ever get to 800 or above without a mortgage paid as agreed.
